10th annual Wild Things Youth Art Contest

CALL FOR ENTRY

10th annual Wild Things Youth Art Contest invites artists ages 5 to 18 to unleash their creativity and celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week. Each artist may submit only one entry, which must be original, recent, matted work and must not be computer generated. Artwork must be titled and may not be framed or have the entrant name or initials on front. The contest is part of the Wild Things festival to be held Oct. 18 at Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge in Lacombe. Participants are asked to capture on paper or canvas the native plants, animals and landscapes of the National Wildlife Refuges of Southeast Louisiana. All art will be displayed at the festival. Art will be judged in four age groups: 5-8, 9-11, 12-14 and 15-18. Entries must be received by Friday at 4:30 p.m. Art may be mailed or hand-delivered to: Art Contest, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 61389 Louisiana 434, Lacombe, LA 70445. Slidell Art League is seeking artists to color their world using only three colors. SAL's upcoming juried show, "Black and White with a Splash of Red" is open to local artists with all levels of expertise. There will be four categories of art to be eligible for awards. Those are: Art Under Glass; Art Not Under Glass; Photography; and Three Dimensional. Gift bags and ribbons will be presented in each of the categories for first-, second- and third-place winners as well as honorable mention. Artists should take the theme of the show into consideration when selecting their entries. Artists may submit their entries Oct. 3 from 4 to 6 p.m., and Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A reception and awards ceremony will be held Oct. 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Slidell Art League Gallery, 1827 Front St., above the train depot. Judging this dramatic exhibit will be award-winning artist and designer Karen Larmeu Stakelum of Covington. This exhibit will be on display through Nov. 10. Cypress Creek FACE presents Free Children's Concert

The Cypress Creek FACE 2008-2009 Free Children’s Series will begin with Strike 3 Percussion presenting Music Is Where You Find It at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2008 with. This is an inspired performance about objects of all kinds! The humble origins of "found" instruments—from buckets to cereal boxes, tables, hands, and voices—is contrasted with the dazzling artistry with which they are played.

What is Kid's Play You ask????

Dear Friends,
I could use your help to find a few MORE good kids!!!  (Not that I don't have some awesome kids already!!)  But my teen outreach programs has a few open spots and I wanted to be sure to get the information out so we can fill these last few spots.

What is Kid's Play You ask????
It is an arts outreach program for children ages 6-18 offered FREE at Hope Center (1210 West Clay, studio 26)  We offer yoga, theater, music, dance, photography and creative writing.  Many of our classes are closed but we have some classes that still have space.  The following classes still have some openings.  We work on a first come, first serve basis, so if you have an interested student please contact us ASAP.
